CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The Salvation Army of Champaign County is kicking off its annual Give With Joy Red Kettle Christmas Campaign on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Prairie Gardens.

The goal this year: to raise $200,000 to help individuals and families facing hardship during the holiday season.

The launch event will feature remarks from Salvation Army leaders and a performance by The Salvation Army Brass Band, officially ringing in the season of giving.

According to the Salvation Army, the organization served over 96,000 individuals last year through programs such as poverty-reduction programs, Veterans Services, emergency shelter, utility assistance, senior and youth programs, and disaster relief.

Leaders emphasize that community support is more crucial than ever, as the Food Pantry now serves more than 500 visitors each day.

“The holidays can be incredibly tough for those already struggling to make ends meet,” said Captain Kenyon and Captain Melissa Sivels, officers of The Salvation Army of Champaign County. “But we’ve also seen how compassionate our community can be. Every donation, large or small, helps one of our neighbors in Champaign County move one step closer to stability and peace. Together, we’re making a difference.”

Residents can help by donating at local Red Kettles, giving online, or volunteering their time. Every contribution goes directly toward providing food, housing assistance, and holiday support for families in need.
