DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — A man is in the hospital after a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon that shut down a downtown Decatur intersection.

The crash happened just before 1 p.m. at the intersection of East Wood Street and South Main Street, near the Macon County Office Building.

The Decatur Police Department said a 21-year-old Decatur woman was at a red light on Main Street, while a 72-year-old Decatur man was approaching Main on Wood Street with a yellow light.

According to police, the woman ran the light and hit the man's car.

Police told WAND News that the 72-year-old man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the 21-year-old woman declined medical treatment at the scene.

The intersection was closed off for hours, with traffic being rerouted to neighboring streets. 

DPD said there was no indication that alcohol or drugs were involved. Members of the fatal accident investigation team are investigating the crash.

Police said there is no further information at this time.
