(WAND) - The Logan County Board approved a 12-month moratorium for large-scale data centers on Tuesday night.Â
The Board said that this will give them crucial time to draft rules and regulations for the massive projects.Â
Six board members supported to year-long moratorium, while four others felt the county needed the proposed data center for economic benefit.Â
"Hut 8 is disappointed by the decision of the Logan County Board to enact a moratorium on data center development. We respect the Board's authority and the local process by which the decision was reached, and we are grateful to the officials, residents, landowners, and partners who engaged with us throughout this process.
We are assessing the implications for the proposed project and will determine the appropriate path forward in the coming weeks. We remain committed to building long-term local partnerships and delivering meaningful economic benefits.
Hut 8 maintains a deep pipeline of development opportunities across North America, and we remain focused on delivering long-term value for our shareholders and for the communities where we operate."
Hut 8 has not confirmed if the data center proposal is officially off the table with the moratorium now in place.Â
