SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Illinois State Police are investigating after a 45-year-old man was killed in an overnight crash involving a state trooper in Springfield. 

ISP said the crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday near 6th Street and Linton.

Police stated that the trooper was going south on 6th Street when they hit the man who was bent down in the road.

The Sangamon County Coroner confirmed that the man was taken to the hospital and was later pronounced dead just before 3:15 a.m.

His identity will not be released until the family is notified, and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday. 

The investigation is ongoing.
