U.S. President Donald Trump repeated his threat to hit Iran’s critical infrastructure hard if the country’s government doesn’t reopen the Strait of Hormuz by his Monday deadline. He said in a profanity-laced social media post Sunday that Tuesday will be “Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran.” He also offered details of the rescue of a “seriously wounded” colonel who had been missing since Friday when Iran shot down a U.S. F-15E Strike Eagle. Trump wrote that the Iranian military was “looking hard, in big numbers, and getting close” to the aviator. Trump said the other F-15 pilot had been rescued earlier in “broad daylight” after seven hours over Iran.

A smoky wildfire in Southern California that broke out Friday morning was mostly under control Saturday afternoon. The Springs Fire in Riverside County, about 64 miles east of Los Angeles, was 75% contained by Saturday. Strong Santa Ana winds that were predicted to gust up to 45 mph on Saturday had “dissipated a bit” since Friday, helping firefighters. About 260 personnel are battling the blaze, and no structures have been damaged. Most evacuation orders have been lifted, and officials expected the rest to be removed by the end of the day. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Tiger Woods says he’ll step away and seek treatment after his SUV crash in Florida. Woods made his comments Tuesday, four days after the crash that led to his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence. Woods pleaded not guilty on Tuesday in his driving under the influence case. The plea came hours after a sheriff’s report said he had pain pills in his pocket and showed signs of impairment at the crash scene last week. I’s the second time Woods has taken a leave following a car crash. In 2009, he announced a leave after his SUV plowed into a fire hydrant and tree outside his home near Orlando.

A fire destroyed the main meditation hall at Tassajara Mountain Zen Center in Central California, as monks neared the end of a long retreat. Last week's fire burned down the wooden building and damaged a nearby library. No one was injured. Staff members used hoses and buckets to slow the flame, limiting the damage to just the one structure. Volunteer firefighters arrived an hour after the fire broke out. A center administrator said several sacred items, including a 2,000-year-old Buddha statue, may have been destroyed. However, the extent of the damages won't be known until they sift through the rubble. Leaders say the loss feels painful, but it also reinforces Buddhism’s teaching on impermanence.

The FBI says a man with an assault-style rifle who crashed his pickup truck into a Detroit-area synagogue earlier in March was carrying out an attack inspired by the militant group Hezbollah and was seeking to kill many Jewish people. The head of the FBI in Detroit, Jennifer Runyan, disclosed the new information Monday about the March 12 attack. She said Lebanon native Ayman Ghazali made video recordings minutes before the attack, saying he wanted to kill as many as he could. Ghazali then smashed his truck loaded with fireworks and gasoline into the building and exchanged gunfire with a guard at Temple Israel before fatally shooting himself. The truck caught fire but did not explode. None of 150 children and staff members were injured.

The crash happened late Sunday night as the jet arriving from Montreal struck an airport fire truck responding to a separate incident aboard another plane.

Iran and the United States appear at an impasse, with each side hardening its position over talks and setting the stage for another potential escalation in the Middle East war. Thousands more U.S. troops are nearing the region, Israel sent more troops into southern Lebanon to fight Hezbollah, and Tehran is tightening its grip on the crucial Strait of Hormuz. Sirens over Israel warned of barrages of incoming Iranian missiles on Thursday and Gulf nations worked to intercept fire. Heavy strikes were reported in Iran’s capital and other cities. Iran continues to fire missiles and there is no sign of an uprising against the government.
