The 6-foot-3, 228-pound quarterback from West Valley City had been committed to Illinois since July but has now reopened his recruitment.
Lopati is considered one of the top prospects in his class, ranked as the No. 9 quarterback in the 2027 Rivals Industry Rankings.
The decommitment is a notable development for Illinois as the program continues to build its future roster. It’s unclear at this time what programs may now be in contention for Lopati or what led to his decision.
Illinois will now look to regroup in its 2027 recruiting efforts following the loss of one of its top quarterback commits.
