(WAND) — Cases of illness frequently rise around the holidays, as people are traveling and visiting family, and illness spreads at a higher rate. 

Dr. Tracy Grotrian, associate medical director at Carle Convenient Care in Champaign-Urbana, said that there are multiple illnesses cycling through their patients. 

"Usually flu A, influenza, that would be the respiratory [flu]. We also are seeing more COVID and strep throat. Those are the three top ones that we are currently seeing," Grotrian said.

If you're taking a plane to your destination, consider the following tips:

  • Carry hand sanitizer
  • Wash hands as often as possible
  • Keep hands away from eyes, nose and mouth
  • Wear a mask on the plane
  • Maintain 3 feet of distance from others when possible

You should also take extra care around your loved ones who are in the following at-risk groups:

  • Kids (5 years and under)
  • Elderly (65+)
  • Pregnant
  • Immunocompromised (undergoing chemotherapy, has an organ transplant, has a chronic illness)
