CHARLESTON, Ill. (WAND) - A 51-year-old pastor accused of possessing child pornography was denied pretrial release Monday morning.

Douglas Overmyer was booked in the Coles County Jail on Friday.

According to a charging document, Overmyer possessed and shared a video file in late May depicting a young girl and an adult man engaged in a sex act.

The Great Lakes Annual Conference told WAND News that Overmyer was "immediately suspended" from his appointment at Zion Hill Church in Mattoon.

"The Global Methodist Church condemns any form of abuse, and if called upon will cooperate fully with law enforcement," Great Lakes said in a statement to WAND.

The organization was unable to provide additional details at this time.

Child porn possession is a Class X felony that carries a six-year minimum sentence and a 30-year maximum sentence.

Overmyer is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 15.
