GIBSON CITY, Ill. (WAND) — One person is dead and several people were hurt after a bus carrying a middle school softball team crashed into a car in Ford County Saturday morning.
According to Illinois State Police, the crash happened at the intersection of IL Route 9 and Ford County 1000E Road near Gibson City shortly after 8:30 a.m.
Police said preliminary information shows that a car driving on 1000E Road failed to yield and drove into the intersection in front of a Hoopeston School District bus, causing the bus to hit the car.
One person in the car died, and three more people were hurt.Â
The bus was transporting 20 students on the Hoopeston Middle School softball team. ISP said although all the students were taken to nearby hospitals, initial reports do not indicate that any of them were seriously hurt.
Traffic near the intersection will stay closed until further notice while troopers continue investigating the crash, according to ISP.
