URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - Urbana City Council approved an agreement with the University of Illinois Police Department Monday night to provide overnight access to the LEADS data system.

LEADS is a statewide database that gives law enforcement access to criminal justice information.

Since 2019, U of I police have covered calls from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. when Urbana police are short-staffed.

City council's approval formalized the agreement and approved a nearly $50,000 budget for UIPD to access LEADS.

Councilwoman Chaundra Bishop also resigned during the meeting, citing recent health complications.

Bishop represented Urbana's Ward 5.

Several council members expressed their appreciation for her service to the Urbana community and hoped for her health to improve.
