BLUE MOUND, Ill. (WAND) — The Meridian Hawks football team helped with storm cleanup after severe storms hit central Illinois Wednesday.
The team was out from 2-5 p.m. Thursday cutting through fallen branches around the community. Members of the program used saws to cut up the debris and load it onto flatbeds.
The National Weather Service did confirm that an EF-1 tornado hit Blue Mound. The storms also caused extensive damage to Meridian Elementary School.
