SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Sangamon County is officially taking applications for its newly established Mental Health Board.

On Election Day, Sangamon County voters approved a .5% tax increase to fund a mental health board by under 2,000 votes. 

The county said the board will have nine members responsible for assessing community needs and ensuring resources are distributed to local service providers. 

Residents with experience in healthcare, mental health services, social services, finance, education and public safety are encouraged to apply, according to the county.

The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on April 20, while potential appointments will be voted on May 12. 

Applications can be submitted online, by email to county@sangamonil.gov, or at the Sangamon County Board Office.
