DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — As plows worked to clear the roads after a heavy snowfall across central Illinois, tow companies worked to help drivers stuck in ditches and driveways.
TMG Towing in Decatur said their drivers have been working since early Saturday morning, towing over a dozen vehicles.
The co-owner said most of the tows are from people sliding off the roads.
"The best thing to do is start slowing down way before you approach that light, before you approach the rear of a car, before you approach a turn, anything" said TMG Towing co-owner Trenton Gilman. "Once you get to sliding, it's almost impossible to get it corrected, because you can't play with ice."
The company said drivers needing a tow should stay in their vehicles to stay warm until a tow truck arrives.
