DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - After counting thousands of ballots, the Macon County Clerk announced Wednesday that incumbent Sheriff Jim Root has won the race.

Root pulled in 4,682 votes, while Shane Beck received 3,192.

The delay in counting results was a result of Beck being a write-in candidate.

Root announced he would seek reelection in June 2025. 

He has over 29 years of law enforcement experience and has served as sheriff since 2021.
