SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — Fire crews responded to a house on fire Saturday night on Brighton Road.

According to the Springfield Fire Department, crews were called to the scene around 8:30 p.m. on March 28 and found an active fire in the home’s basement.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames. During the response, a dog was rescued from the first floor and treated on scene with oxygen.

Officials say the fire was caused by a furnace issue fueled by natural gas. Crews remained on scene for about two and a half hours.

No injuries were reported. Damage estimates are still pending.
